He was predeceased by: his parents, Johannes Engel and Erna Engel (Haverberg); his son Steven Engel; and his siblings, Anna "Allene" Engel Leistikow, Gladys M. Engel Reisinger and Ronald J. Engel.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Engel of Waterloo; his children, Susan Northey (Jerry) of Waterloo, Mark Engel (Barbara) of Cedar Falls and Randy Engel (Linda); and his sister Doris Saul (Dick) of Cedar Falls. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
