He was predeceased by: his son Michael Schmidt, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Diane Hughes of Waterloo; his daughters, Corrine Tiegen of Waterloo and Miranda Bickford (Jay) of Le Mars, IA; and his siblings, John Schmidt (Lori) of Waterloo, Lori Hein (Jim) of Waterloo and Barbara Ossmann. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
