He was predeceased by: his parents, Dan Yates and Patsy Galvin Yates; and his grandparents, Garold Galvin, William, Lucille Yates, Jake and Luke.

He is survived by: his spouse Erin Elisabeth Roe; his children, Emily Yates and Jack Yates of Waterloo; his sister Lisa Macs of Austin; his grandmother Mae Galvin of Knoxville; and his nieces and nephews, Australian Shepherd and Bear.
