He was predeceased by: his parents, Donovan Havnen and Shirley Havnen (Tagesen); his grandparents, Morgan Havnen (Opal) and Henry Tagesen (Gena); his siblings, Kathy Banks, Mary Lin Kolb, Don Havnen Jr. and Mark Havnen; his nephews, Jeff Bolstad and Garrett Havnen; and his sister-in-law Wendy Havnen.
He is survived by: his niece Chris Hatfield (Mike) of Ankeny; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Thomas of Ankeny and Brianna Dunn (Harrison) of Overland Park, Kansas; his brother Jim Havnen (Pam) of Ankeny; and his brother-in-law Doug Kolb of Mason City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Matt Havnen Memorial Fund.
