He was predeceased by: his parents, George Buchan and Tillie Buchan (Thoren); and his siblings, George Jr., Ray, Dean, Paul, Vern Buchan, LaVonne Messersmith, Kay Van Horn and Norma Jacobson.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Buchan; his son Shannon Buchan; and his brothers, Jerry Buchan (Judy) of Waterloo and Ron Buchan (Karen) of Waterloo.
