He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Kenneth Hensley and Elinore Caroline Hensley (Morris); his brothers, Gary Kern, Gordon Kern and Richard Kern; and his sisters-in-law, Arlene and Sharon Kern.

He is survived by: his wife Penny Lynn Hensley (Van Gerpen); his stepson Mitchell Calvert; his siblings, Craig Kern and Terrilee Danner (Morris); and his sister-in-law Christine. He is also survived by uncle and aunt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
