He was predeceased by: his parents, Ashiel Lafferty and Dewanda Quigley Lafferty; his wife Barbara Helen Markunas; and his son Jerry Jr.. He is survived by: his daughter Kim Farrar (Kelley) of Ames; his stepdaughter Dana Smith-Katz of Waterloo; his grandsons, Nathan Farrar of Ames and Sean Farrar (Sarah) of Ames; and his stepgrandsons, Trevor and Jason Katz. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
