She was predeceased by: her parents, Arthur Freed and Mirla Freed of Waterloo, IA; her niece Cheryl Hanson of Datil, NM; and her cousin Leonard Freed of Jesup, Iowa.. She is survived by: her husband Paul R. Melick of Waterloo, IA; her daughters, Sharon Van Devender (Todd) of Nixa, MO and Phyllis Plumlee of Bossier City, LA; her sister Marian Hanson; her niece Tammi Hanson of Waterloo, IA; her nephew Donald Hanson of Sanford, FL; her cousin Earl Freed, Jr. of Waterloo, IA; and her grandsons, Michael Van Devender (Sarah) of Rogers, AR, Christopher Van Devender (Areli Ortiz) of Kansas City, MO, Nathaniel Van Devender (Karolina Fraczac) of Springfield, MO and Ronnie Plumlee of Bossier City, LA. She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church (1307 W Ridgeway Ave, Waterloo, IA 50701). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
