He was predeceased by: his parents, James Smith and Hattie Smith (VanDenBurgh); his wife JoAnn Ihnen; and his siblings, Ronald, Byrl and Marlys.
He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey Smith (Carlene) of Colorado, Bradley Smith of Des Moines, Angela DeWolf (Scott) of Waterloo and Lisa Smith (Jeff) of Jesup; and his sisters, Marlene Thurman (Keith) of Waverly and Janet Heald of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
