He was predeceased by: his parents, Newton Thomas and Lela Thomas (Nixon); and his stepson Gerald Wayne Sanders. He is survived by: his wife Ann of Washington, Iowa; his children, Bryan Thomas (Jessica) of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and Amy Molino of Roslyn, Pennsylvania; his stepdaughter Christine Conry of Washington, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Ashley Thomas of Edison, Tara Thomas of Alfred, Cameron Bright of Aniconda, Montana, Jacqueline Peterson (Travis) of Taylorsville, Utah and Joshua Sanders (Jessica) of Montgomery, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
