He was predeceased by: his parents, Allan Hanson and Florence Hanson (Steckel); his wife Rosemary Theobald; his brother Don Hanson; and his sister-in-law Julie Hanson.
He is survived by: his sons, Eric Hanson (Shannon) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Greg Hanson (Maria) of North Liberty, Iowa and Nicholas Hanson (Genevieve) of Falls Church, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Rose, Peter, Julian and Kirin Hanson. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Memorials have been established for the Washington County Hospital Foundation, the YMCA of Washington County, and the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center.
