It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John C Thorne of Washington, Iowa, born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, who passed away on February 18, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Thorne and Avis Thorne (Stomberg); his wife Helen Gilbert; and his brothers-in-law, Steve Ahlstrand and Jerry Gilbert.
He is survived by: his daughters, Mary Mendelin (Michael) of Bettendorf, IA and Sandra Abbott of Urbandale, Iowa; his grandchildren, John, Leah Mendelin, Elizabeth, Audrey and Olivia Abbott; his sister Phyllis Ahlstrand of Bettendorf, Iowa; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Gilbert (Julie Gammack) of Des Moines, Iowa and Frederick Gilbert (Sally) of Ottumwa, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer's Association, Halcyon House Staff Scholarship Fund, Washington Public Library and the United Presbyterian Church.
