He was predeceased by: his parents, Millard H. Schlatter and Leola L. Schlatter (Christner); his son Timothy Schlatter; and his sisters, Shirley Schlatter and Dianne Bowser.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Bowser of Washington, IA; his sons, Tim and Steve; his grandsons, Chad, Josh, Matt Manning, Dick and Millard; his children, Tami, Tamara Heckendorn (James) of Huber Heights, OH., Dixie Young (Richard) of Washington, IA. and Stephen Schlatter (Ronette) of Story City, IA; and his daughter-in-law Jeane Schlatter (Nick Gearhart) of Richmond, IA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Shriner's Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Washington County.
