She was predeceased by: her children, David Lee Johnson and Amy L. Ellison; her grandchildren, Nathan Woodsmall and Dusty Woodsmall; her son-in-law Jerry Bean; and her siblings, Samuel Smith, Jack Smith, Robert Smith and Mary Rice.

She is survived by: her parents, Frederick Elsworth and Laura Clara McCracken Smith; her spouse Walter Lee Johnson; her daughters, Carol A. Strawhacker (Craig) of West Burlington and Beverly R. Bean of Wapello; her grandchildren, Chris Strawhacker, Curt Strawhacker, Scheryl, Melissa, Levi Bean and Lisa Weaver; and her sister Laura Rheinhardt (Lucille).

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.
