With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John Shafer of Wapello, Iowa, born in Burlington, Iowa, who passed away on September 14, 2023 at the age of 57. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Shafer and Sandra Shafer (Tompkins); his son AeRick Shafer; and his sister Angela Sutherland. He is survived by: his children, Stephanie Yerington of Muscatine, Aaron Shafer (Cindy) of Wilton and Brittney Purdy (Tyler) of Muscatine; his grandchildren, Lexi, Zoey, Dalton, Riley, Ayden, Mason, Autumn, AeRick, Addalynn, Olivia, Elizabeth and Abigail; his stepmother Debbie Shafer of Wapello; his siblings, Mandi Mincer (Bobby) of West Burlington, Brett Shafer (Abby) of Wapello, Brian Shafer (Kristin Hagberg) of Wapello, Charli Shafer of Muscatine and Serah Shafer of Wapello; and his friends, Troy McDowell and Mark "Sparky" Stineman. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
