He was predeceased by: his father John; his wife Gertrude Elizabeth Murray; his son Stanley; his sister Maude; his brother-in-law Joe Ausdemore; his sister Norma Jean; and his siblings-in-law, LaVerne Kozisek, Mildred, Gerald Martin, Vernon, Ruth Murray, Dorothy and Darrell Bauerkemper.
He is survived by: his son Doug Matthies (Margo); his grandchildren, Christie, Cathy and Reid; his son Robert Matthies (Verna); his grandchildren, Corey (Mindi), Julie (Ryan Wheatley), Jill (Ben Cary) and John (Erica); his daughter Darla Snyder (Sherman); his grandchildren, Erika (Ryan Kirchhoff), Emily (Jesse King), Kelsi (Jay Eden) and Seth; his daughter-in-law Sally Matthies; and his grandchildren-in-law, Dan (Becky), David and Shelia (Matt Prokupek). He is also survived by 34 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
