He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Grimes and Helen Kirby Grimes; his daughter Barb Grimes; and his granddaughter Julia Langstraat. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Roberts of Vinton; his daughters, L. Diane Jonasson (Claes) of Little Rock, AR, Debbie Kendall (David) of Bellevue, NE and Luanne Langstraat (Lyle) of Vinton; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Weisser (David), Rachel Kendall, Brian Langstraat (Megan), Douglas Langstraat (Sabrina), Katrina Langstraat and Stephanie Jonasson; and his great grandchildren, Lillian, Andrew, Amelia Weisser, Hendrik and Eliza Langstraat.
Memorials will be directed to Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity and the First Christian Church in Vinton.
