He was predeceased by: his parents, Gene Sutherland and Lois Sutherland (Matthiesen); and his brother Roger Sutherland. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Sutherland of Van Meter; his children, Christy Vesey (Mark) of Waukee, Kimberley Firch (Marvin) of Earlham, Sean Culbertson (Kathy) of Newton and Scott Culbertson (Cindi) of Des Moines; and his siblings, Sandy Garoutte (Jim) of Adel, Deani Montang (Jeff) of Minnetrista, Ronnie Sutherland (Kristi) of Adel, Joani Groves (Floyd) of Rippey and Carol Barrow (Bill) of Woodward. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Adel Chapel (735 S 14th St, Adel, IA 50003). A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 8th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Calendar American Legion Post 403 (910 Main St, Van Meter, IA 50261). The military honors was held on Monday, February 10th 2025 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel, IA 50003).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Van Meter American Legion Post No. 403.
