He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Hurst and Mary Hurst; his wife Liela Lee Thomas; his daughters, Linda Hurst and Lesa Ahrens; his granddaughter Rebecca; and his brothers, Dennis, Thomas and James Hurst.
He is survived by: his sons, Stan Hurst (Janis) and Sherman Hurst (Marj); and his sister LaDonna Hurst (David Bulmer). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Urbandale.
