He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred E. Bice and Edith Dollie Nagle Bice; his son David John Bice; and his former wife Carol Hixson Bice Lathrum. He is survived by: his wife Janice Jolley Cross Bice of Cedar Rapids; his children, Sue Rosander (Randy) of St. Charles, IA, Cindy Wetzel (Harlan) of Peru, IA and Rick Bice Jr. of Weston, MO; his stepchildren, Amy Kaster (Bryan) of Harlan, IA and Lucas Kuhlmann (Molly) of Iowa City, IA; his pet Tiger Lily; and his caregiver Abbie Miller. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren.
He retired in 2007, being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, Diabetes, Lewy Body Dementia, arthritis, and cancer. Contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 3 in Urbandale as well as UnityPoint Hospice.
