He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. O'Brien and Anna E. O'Brien; his son Michael; and his siblings, Wayne O'Brien (Harriet), Mary Cook (Kenneth), Elizabeth Waltz (Albert), Martina Breheny (Vincent), Rita Bishop (Jerry), Teresa Powell (Irwin) and Rose Cox (Richard).
He is survived by: his wife Marie; his children, Angela O'Brien, Darin O'Brien (Jennifer) and Steven O'Brien; his stepchildren, Brian Backstrom (Amy Randolph) and Alicia Sabers (Darin); his grandchildren, Shawn, Aaron, Kelly Brynildson, Donnie O'Brien (Heidi), Stephanie Holsten (Joe) and Katie O'Brien; his stepgrandchildren, Sheldon Sabers (Dana) and Lauryn Sabers; his great grandchildren, Jadyn, Jackson, Jace O'Brien, Abby, Emily Holsten, Quinn, Cooper, Nathan and Riley Brynildson; his siblings-in-law, Phyllis O'Brien, Linda Streeter (Gary) and Glen Davidson (Melanie Abbott); and his mother-in-law Ruth Davidson. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, Minnesota where his oldest son Michael received wonderful care.
