He was predeceased by: his niece Gail Schmidt. He is survived by: his parent Harold A.; his wife Mickey (Michelle) of Muscatine; his children, Megan Schmidt of Urbandale, Isaak Schmidt of Indianola and Caleb Smith of Indianola; his grandchildren, Aarisin Hiszczynskyj of Indianola, Caliber Smith of Indianola and Sylis Smith of Indianola; his mother Lucille Schmidt of Urbandale; his siblings, William Schmidt (Laurie) of Earlham, Margaret Schmidt of Cottonwood, Dan Schmidt (Nancy) of Des Moines and Marcella Karsten (Randy) of Kingston; and also Gabby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to James' family to help with medical expenses.
