He was predeceased by: his parents, John Vernon and Beatrice Owen (McIntosh); his wife Karen Spannring; and his siblings-in-law, Bill, Andy, David, John, Chuck, Ron Howieson, Dick Murray, Marcella, Jean, Shirleen Howieson and Grace Boeke.
He is survived by: his son Doug Spannring (Mary); his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Olivia of Fort Collins, Colorado; his son Steve Spannring (Ashley); his grandson Jasper of Jakarta, Indonesia; and his siblings-in-law, Paul Howieson of Owatonna, Minnesota, Larry Howieson (Christie) of Crystal, Minnesota, Ruth Murray of Claremont, Minnesota, Barb Howieson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Shirley Nelsen (Gene) of St. Peter, Minnesota, Judy Remington (Harlan) of Janesville, Minnesota, Marilyn Howieson of Johnston, Iowa and Jim Boeke of Denham Springs, Louisiana..
