He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey McNary and Marge McNary (Heck); his parents-in-law, Vernice and Frank Detrick; and his sisters-in-law, Helen McNary and Audrey Vaughn.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Detrick; his son Brian McNary (Marcie) of Urbandale; his grandson Malachy McNary; his siblings, David McNary of Marshalltown, Paula McKenzie (Dennis) of Franklin, TN and Mary Erlandson (Norman) of Florence, TX.; and his siblings-in-law, Marvin Detrick (Debra) of Marshalltown, Paul Detrick (Michelle) of Gilman, Tim Vaughn of Ankeny, Diana Slifer, Carol Huff of Marshalltown, Sandra Caligiuri (Charles) of Des Moines, Paulette Gretter, Sharon Winkel (Tim) of Ankeny and Elaine Rund (Richard) of Cheyenne, WY. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
