He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold G. Benson and Jennie L. Benson (Jacobson). He is survived by: his wife Sally; his children, Cory (Sheri), Mark, Josef, Daniel (Amanda), Samuel and Kirsten; and his brother Steve (Darla). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, January 31st 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Calendar Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory (8201 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, IA 50322). A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

Memorial donations may be directed to the family on behalf of the Bertha Bartlett Public Library in Story City.
