He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Haars and Ethel Haars (Plank); his former spouses, Francy Mollenhauer and Francy Haars; his sister Shirlene Ternus; his niece Marlene Gross; his nephews, Mark Ternus and Tony Phillis; and his brother-in-law Frankie Phillis.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Vanderpool of Urbana; his children, Michele Dammeier (Kevin) of DeWitt, Wayne Haars (Kayla) of Frederika, Lonnie Vanderpool (Shawn) of Urbana and Donald Haars (Gina) of Ham Lake, MN; his grandchildren, Kaylee, Kameron, Kaden, Makenzi, Wesley, Rebecca, Javontae, Kalston, Dexlin, Kayla, Ashley, Ethan, Alle and Gary; his great grandchildren, Zayn, Luna and Kohen; and his siblings, Wanda Phillis of Denver, IA, Arvil Haars (Connie) of Urbana and Larry Haars (Cindy) of Vinton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
