He is survived by: his spouse Laurie Stringer; and his children, Debbie Galloway (Kenny) of Scotland, James Halbig Jr. of South Carolina, Kevin Halbig (Janelle) of Oklahoma, Angie Gilbertson (Mike) of Henderson, NV, Stacey Landoni (Dean) of Lake Havasu, AZ, Tracey O'Brien of Spokane, WA, Jamie Lewis (Jesse) of Toledo, Christine Black (Daniel Rinehart) of Des Moines and Rebecca Halverson (Andy Catherwood) of Garwin. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
