He was predeceased by: his parents, Siemen Smidt and Frances Smidt (Tjaden); his wife Velda Brandt; his sisters, Sandy Jones and Ellen Smidt; and his siblings-in-law, Marjorie Vereide (Walter), Marlene Meyers (James), Doris Hagedorn (Robert) and Arlo Brandt.
He is survived by: his sons, Steven Smidt of Titonka, Scott Smidt (Pam) of Titonka and Sidney Smidt (Barbara) of Dandridge, TN; his grandchildren, Siemen Smidt of Fayston, VT, Lexie Smidt (Owen Zimmerman) of Fenton and Nicole Smidt of Titonka; his siblings, Gary Smidt (Joan) of Titonka, William Smidt (Mildred) of Titonka and Fayann Weydert (Bernie) of Algona; and his siblings-in-law, RoseLyn Pearson of Crosslake, MN and Robert Brandt of Litchfield, MN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
