He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Hopkes and Hilka Hopkes (Miller); his siblings-in-law, Virgil Heifner of Elko, MN and Cecil; his brothers, Raymond and Vernon (Ruby); his daughter Marilyn Thomsen; his grandson Clinton Darr; and his siblings-in-law, Jerald, Ardis Heifner, Carrol, Fonda Heifner, Louise Heifner and Robert Heifner.
He is survived by: his daughters, Beverly Darr (Joe) of Polk City and Linda Uken (Gary) of Titonka; his son-in-law Jim Thomsen of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Laura Schulte (Ben) of Amana, Brian Thomsen of Cedar Rapids, Emily McCullough (Reed) of Fort Dodge, Benjamin Darr of Dubuque, Holly Adams (Jarred) of Des Moines, Andrea Smit (Josh) of Lake Crystal, MN and Allison Buns (Casey) of Davenport; his great grandchildren, Austin, Renee, Claire Schulte, Eliza McCullough, Neal, Miles Darr, Brenden and Lauren Smit; and his sisters-in-law, Myrtle Heifner of Fairmont, MN, Marilyn Heifner of Lone Rock and Gertrude Heifner of Belmond.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ramsey Reformed Church, 3706 220th Avenue, Titonka, IA 50480, in Alvin's name.
