He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer H. P. Hennings and Iva Gritton Hennings; his son Mike; his granddaughter Shelbe; and his son-in-law Andy Petersen.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Hennings of Rochester; and his children, Deanna Petersen (Mike) of Pella, Connie Byrnes (Don) of West Branch, Scott Flynn (Monica) of Marion and Donald Hennings, Jr. of Marion. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
