He was predeceased by: his father Harlan Benner; his stepfather John TePoel; and his sister Tracy Benner. He is survived by: his mother Patricia Benner (Rund); his children, Lacey Nerness (Eli Wildman) of Marshalltown and Taryn Cochenour (John) of Tama; his grandchildren, Anna Nerness, Maya Nerness, Milo Wildman and Arya Cochenour; his half-brother Matt Benner (Jennifer) of Toledo; and his aunts, Maxine Kroeger (Butch), Betty Plowman (Steve) and Marlene Sotyn. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
