He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Elizabeth Schultz (Fish); his spouse Laurie Shelton; his children, Carlee Hollar (Aleksandr) of Tama, Cory Shelton (Crystal Thompson) of Tama, Ryan Shelton (Shelby) of Ankeny and Daniel Shelton of Grinnell; his sister Susan Schultz (Kevin Greiman) of Haverhill; his father Marvin Schultz; his stepfather Max Kepler; and his friend Kevin "Muskie" Mauskemo. He was also cherished by 8 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be dedicated for a memorial garden in his honor to be named the "Hosta La Vista Garden".
