He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Starits and Mamie Starits (Behounek); his wife Joann Starits; his son Christopher Starits; his grandson Joseph E. Starits; and his sister Violet Upah.
He is survived by: his children, Sandy Brewer (Stephen) of Toledo, Jennifer Mora-Starits (Ricardo) of Marshalltown, Kathy Tayloe-Starits (Sarah) of Dubuque and Suzanne Garcia of Cedar Falls; his grandchildren, Miranda, Sadie, Jacqueline, Ariella, Emily, Hallie, Dona, Luis and Marco; and his granddaughter-in-law Elizabeth Starits. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and many family and friends.
