He is survived by: his mother Joanne Tiernan (Schrodt) of Stuart; his wife Margaret Gomez of Stuart; his children, Jennifer of Stuart, Patrick of Stuart, Matthew (Shelby McDaniel) of Stuart and Michael of Stuart; his grandchildren, Alyssa Kuehl (Logan Shield), George, Violet, Eleanor and Norma Tiernan; his great grandchild Haven Shield; his siblings, Kit Tiernan (Kathy Corbin) of Marshalltown, Ellen Iwai (Ken) of Chicago, Angela Buskohl (Randy See) of Rowley, Shane Tiernan (Cathy) of Polk City, IA, Laura Dankof (Scott) of Westcliff, CO, Nancy Munro (Dennis) of Wheaton, IL, Martha Scheckel (Don) of Beltsville, MD., Rob Tiernan (Eliziane) of Marshalltown, IA, Sara Reichart (Sam) of Ankeny, IA and Rachel Tegeler (David) of Des Moines, IA; and his brother-in-law Bruce Otto of Grinnell, IA. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
