He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Hansel and Eva Hansel (Simons); his son-in-law Duane Denton; and his grandsons, Logan and Conner Hansel.
He is survived by: his wife Pauline Hansel of Strawberry Point; his children, Peggy Denton of Haven, Doug Hansel (Rebecca) of Colesburg, Michelle Borrett of Strawberry Point and Mike Hansel (Sheryl) of Cedar Falls; and his sister-in-law Beulah Flatjord of Hiawatha. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
