She was predeceased by: her parents, Albert Olson and Jennis Olson (Gabrielson); and her husband John S. Valen. She is survived by: her sons, Sten and Michael (Sue) of Story City; her grandsons, John (Megan) and Matthew; and her great grandchildren, Adelyn and Owen.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
