He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Mahnke and Anna Mahnke (Gruhn); and his wife Joan. He is survived by: his children, Donna Dorio of Port St, Debbie Sheets (Dick) of Panora, Iowa, Cindy Vander Leest (Scott) of Watertown and Lee Mahnke (Rachel) of Florissant, Colorado; his grandchildren, Jamie Kunze (Eric) of Panora, Iowa, Mitchell Sheets of Panora, Iowa, Ryan Vander Leest of Brookings, Allison (Cameron) and Ashley (Joe); and his great grandchildren, Tate Kunze, Taylor Kunze, Autumn Sheets, Gavin Sheets and Charlyee Williams.
