He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel J. McCarthy and Helen R. McCarthy (Lamb); his parents-in-law, Robert and Mary Hoesing; his granddaughter Graciela Mora; his siblings, Daniel McCarthy (Marilyn), Thomas McCarthy (Margaret), Ruth Rooney (Pat), Marg Loutsch (Vernon), Mary Rose Morgan (Sam), Carol McCarthy and Judy McCarthy; his brothers-in-law, Jerry Reeg, Charles Livingston, John T. Hoesing and Roger Walz; his nephew Jack Rooney; and his nieces, Malinda McCarthy and Joan McCarthy.

He is survived by: his wife Madonna Hoesing; his children, Jim McCarthy (Amy) of Port Allen, Louisiana, Corene Baum (James) of Rio Rancho, Monica Edler (Alan) of State Center, Patti Edler (Eric) of State Center and Jackie Mora of State Center; his grandchildren, Rachel, Lucas, Adele, Sophia, Rhiannon Baum, Blake, Robin Edler, Jacob Edler (Moriah), Carolyn Badje (Stetson), Emmett Edler, Shawn McCarthy, Joaquin, Fabian and Max Mora; his great grandchildren, Taylee Mae Edler and Briggs Badje; his sisters, Alice Reeg and Ellen Livingston of Sioux City, Iowa; and his sister-in-law Marie Hoesing of Lincoln, Nebraska. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 10th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the St Joseph Catholic Church (610 3rd St SW, State Center, IA 50247). A vigil service was held on Monday, March 10th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 11th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
