He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Hummel and Lena Hummel; his wife Elayne Stanton; his parents-in-law, Ed and Ida McMahon; his brother Johnny; his sister-in-law Doyne Hummel; his sister Betty; and his brothers-in-law, George Banning and Dick Ayres (Bob).
He is survived by: his children, Dan Hummel (Jane) of Spirit Lake, Todd Hummel (Becky) of Spirit Lake and Cheryl Hummel Ihry (Bob Hansen) of Spirit Lake; his grandchildren, Joe Hummel (Emilia), Jim Hummel (Ashley), Jon Hummel (Shanda), Lauren Hanson (Justin), Sara Taylor (Spenser) and Scott Hummel (Taylor); and his sister Mary Lou Ayres of Spirit Lake. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may made to the Spirit Lake Community Schools Foundation, Gentiva Hospice or to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dean's name.
