He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Cecil Lane and Wanda Walker Lane; his wife Darla Lane; his daughters, Melinda Gerst and Leanne Allen (Jeff); his grandchildren, Ethan Gerst (Stacia), Caleb Gerst (Jessica), Emily Moncada (Athan), Tanner Gerst (Alyssa), Oliva Hester (Thor) and Trevor Gerst; his great grandchildren, Rhett, Mara Gerst, Oakleigh, Logan Gerst, Ezra Moncada and Ruthie Hester; and his siblings, Ronald Lane (Judy) and Loretta Smith (Steve).

Visitation was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Myers Wedding Barn (18876 111th Ave, Sperry, IA 52650). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the same location.
