It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vernon Dean Banks of Spencer, Iowa, born in Storm Lake, Iowa, who passed away on March 17, 2021, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Lloyd Banks and Gladys Marie Banks-Schmeling (North); his wife Virginia Sue Swenson (Swenson); his stepfather Bill Schmeling; his brothers, Ronnie (Carol Banks), Gary (Mary Banks), Bill Miller and Dennis Condon; and his friend Wilma Tiernan.
He is survived by: his sons, Pinewood Derby, Boy Scouts, Scott Banks (Carol) of Spencer, IA, Jason Banks of Adel, IA and Jody Cochran of Dallas Center, IA; and his siblings, George (Colette) of North Carolina, Joan Condon of Nebraska, Mike Banks of Iowa and Bobby Banks of Arizona. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established by the family.
