He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Horst and Geneva Horst; his sister Catherine Stallman; and his son Johnny Kress. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Bjorklund; his sisters, Mary Jungers of Hawarden, IA, Margaret Pry of Hawarden, IA and Norene Petrich (Scott) of Colorado; his children, Deborah Helmke of Spencer, IA, Kelly Kress of Ruthven, IA and James Horst Jr. (Lisa) of Spencer, IA; and his grandchildren, Nicholas Chapman (Katie) of Spencer, IA, Jennifer Von Ehwegen (Tim) of Spencer, IA, Jamie Bousquet (Josh) of Sioux City, IA, Ty Helmke of Ruthven, IA, Sean Kress of Sioux City, IA, Jeramy Kress of Sioux City, IA, Zachary Jackson of Sioux City, IA, Drew Horst of Spencer, IA, Abigail Horst of Spencer, IA and Lauren Horst of Spencer, IA. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a loyal member of Foundation Church in Spencer and he valued his faith.
