He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank E. Tanner and Katherine Tanner (Wooster); his siblings, Margaret Martin (Don), Frank, Jr. Tanner (Vernice), James Tanner (Helen), Dorothy Winter (Herman) and Marna Juvenal; and his fathers-in-law, Melvin Johnson (Lois) and Lester Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Lucile Joanne Johnson of Hartley, IA; his children, Mark Tanner (LaDonna) of Spencer, IA, Doug Tanner (Marlys) of St. Cloud, MN, Steve Tanner (Kim) of Ottumwa, IA, Scott Tanner (Juli) of Nevada, IA and Nancy Johnson of Jackson, MN; his grandchildren, TJ Tanner (Amy), Katie Chapman (Nick), Sara Escher (Anthony), Anna Harmsen (Andy), Emma Tanner (Matt Schul), Gabriel Tanner (Alex), Laura Tanner, Erik Tanner, Nathan Tanner, Emily Johnson (Collin Stevermer) and Ben Johnson; his great grandchildren, Ethan Tanner, Trista Tanner, Charley Escher and Brady Harmsen; and his sisters-in-law, Edna Johnson and Velda Benson (LaVerne).
