He was predeceased by: his parents, Donna Merten and Edwin Merten; and his brothers, Dan Merten and Don Merten. He is survived by: his children, Matthew Merten, Michael Merten and Melissa Benedict; and his sisters, Cindy Meyerdirk and Melinda Carlson. He is also survived by his six grandchildren.
