He is survived by : his wife Joan Heinle of Sloan, Iowa; his daughters, Kerensa Reiss (JR) of Omaha and Jill King (DJ) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his grandchildren, Andrew, Larisa, April, Lucas and Lily; his siblings-in-law, Barb Matney of Marshalltown, Iowa and Paul Harmon (Cindy) of Carrollton, Texas; his parents-in-law, Ellis and Colleen Harmon of Marshalltown, Iowa; and his friend Dexter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives.

“After the 1500 at the Iowa Senior Games they announced Roger's passing. I was shocked. I saw that he was entered and I was looking forward to seeing him again. I'm a couple of year younger than Roger and we have run against each other many times. I especially remember many Iowa Games cross country races. I remember running in a race underground in Kansas City and being surprised and glad to see and talk to Roger there - the only person I knew out of thousands. I am so sorry for your loss.”
