With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Virgil Duit of Slater, Iowa, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Virgil left this world on January 1, 2025 at the age of 85, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Aeilt Duit and Dena Duit (Brower); his siblings, Duane Duit, Carlene Steding and Calvin Duit; and his brothers-in-law, Keith Burman and James Harty.
He is survived by: his wife Audrey Held; his children, Bonita Wiley (Jerry) of Bondurant, IA, Brenda Schafbuch (Joseph) of Madrid, IA, Belinda Schafbuch (Craig) of Huxley, IA, Barbara Hillesheim (Brian) of New Ulm, MN and Bryce Duit (Teresa) of Bondurant, IA; his grandchildren, Krista Summers (Alysha), Nathan Wiley (Elizabeth), Whitney Funkhouser (Jordan), Sawyer Schafbuch (Natalie), Bailey Puhrmann (Andrew), Quincy Evans (Seth), Caleb Schafbuch (Megan), Isaac Schafbuch (Sydni), Aubrey Schafbuch (Gavin Tierney), Kelly Blythe (Holden), Rachael Schaudt (Christopher), Derek Schafbuch, Jordan Hillesheim (Aunna), Jackson Hillesheim, Lucas Duit (Taylor), Trey Duit (Kaylie) and Payton Duit (Taylor); his sisters, Norma Burman of Aplington, IA and Lavonna Meyer (Marlan) of Latimer, IA; and his sister-in-law Marjorie Duit of Nevada, IA. He is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Slater Baptist Church (601 Story St, Slater, IA 50244). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location.
