He was predeceased by: his father Dean Backstrom; his son William Josef; and his brother Dennis Backstrom. He is survived by: his mother Delores Backstrom (Sage) of Pocahontas, Iowa; his wife Amy Nellist; his children, Michael Dean Backstrom of Germany, Samantha Rae Nellist of Fargo, Jesse Stewart Backstrom of Nevada and Bailey Marie Backstrom of Nevada, Iowa; his grandchildren, Dante Ernest, Raegan Lynn, Eleanor Rose and Wesson Dale; his sister Debra Hansch (Randy) of Monroe, Iowa; and his sister-in-law Cathy Backstrom of Mallard, Iowa. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
