He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Wilmes and Virginia Wilmes (Goetzinger); his parents-in-law, Chris and Lucille Hogh; his great grandchildren, Benedict James and Alyxandrea Mae; his brother Mark; his brother-in-law Ronald Hogh; and his son-in-law Denny Jarrett.
He is survived by: his wife Louise Hogh of John's Church; his children, Michael Jr. (Gina Wilmes), Chris (Kate Wilmes), Kevin (Susan Wilmes), Lisa Jarrett of Council Bluffs, IA, Theresa (John Van Eldik) and Laurie (Dave Bentson); his grandchildren, Erin Stroot (Gary), Jennifer Wilmes, Amy Healy (Ryan), Emily Mattison (Taylor), Catherine Clark (Cody), Grace Wilmes, Maria Statema (Zach), Suzie Ellison (Greg), Sarah Ramirez (Joe), Brian Wilmes, Kenny Wilmes, Michael P. Wilmes, Lake Buck, Zachary Buck, Taylor Buck, Bill VanEldik (Morgan), Jeff VanEldik, Brandon Madison (Emily), Gerrit VanEldik, Anna VanEldik, Brandon Stroman (Kayla), Brittany Treft (Adam), Braedyn Bentson and David Bentson; his sister Mary V Wilmes of Sioux City; and his in-laws, Don Hogh of Jackson, NE and Pam Wilmes of Sioux City. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A rosary was held on Wednesday, April 2nd 2025 at 4:30 PM at the Mater Dei Parish (1212 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, IA 51106). Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 2nd 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
