He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Robert and Arlene Marguerite Cardwell (Hoopingarner); and his sisters, Lois Whitman, Lucille Nelson and Colleen Cardwell.

He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Louise Miller; his children, Patrick Cardwell (Corina), Chad Cardwell (Angela), Ryan Cardwell, Rebekah Torres (Jehu) and Emily Henderson (Nathan); his grandchildren, Jerika Mesik, Samuel Cardwell, Elizabeth Cardwell, Logan Henderson, Haven Henderson and Skylar Henderson; and his siblings, Janet Christensen, Nancy Scully, Georgia Rose, Penny Burmeister (Ray), Peggy Cardwell and Kenneth Cardwell (Vicki). He is also survived by his family and friends.
