He was predeceased by: his parents, Zeno Hammes and Edna Hammes (Horras); his siblings, Donald Hammes, Marjorie Striegel and Isabelle Baker; and his son-in-law Bill Tuggle.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Bombei of Sigourney; his children, Gerald Hammes (Peg), Tony Hammes (Sherry), Rhonda Wehr (Larry), Marlene Tuggle, Wayne Hammes (Sharon), Dennis Hammes (Lori), Sarah Gimbel (Gary), Mary Ann Samman (Hassan), Kevin Hammes (Toni), Kyle Hammes (Luanne), Annette Hammes and Lyle Hammes (Phebe); and his sister Mary Hahn. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.
Mask usage and social distancing are required inside the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice or the Clear Creek Heritage Association.
